Free assessment · Grades 1–10

Find out how your child
really feels about math.

A short, friendly assessment covering interest, strengths, learning style and real skill gaps. Then a full report with a tailored curriculum and the type of tutor that fits your child best.

About 15 minutes. No card. The report is yours either way.

Not a test

Half the questions
have no right answer.

Because "does my child actually enjoy this?" and "what happens when they get one wrong?" tell you more than a score ever will.

Then the right plan

A curriculum built
around one child. Yours.

Foundation gaps first, priority focus areas next, taught the way your child actually learns: live, one-on-one or in a small group.

How it works

Three steps are free.
The fourth is your decision.

No card at any point before you enrol. Take the assessment, read the report, meet the tutor in a real class, then decide with everything in front of you.

    What's included

    A full picture of how
    your child relates to math.

Adapted by grade, from simple and visual for younger students to more detailed for older ones. Never a test with a pass or fail attached.

    What you get back

    A real report, not
    a score out of ten.

Every dimension of the assessment, from raw interest and skills signals through to a tailored curriculum and a tutor recommendation. Written for a parent to read, not a spreadsheet to parse.

An educational tool for math interest, learning style and skill gaps. Not a psychological or clinical assessment, and it does not diagnose anything.

    How tutors are selected

    Three in every hundred
    who apply make it through.

Knowing math and being able to teach it to a nine year old who has decided they hate it are different skills. We test for both, then train and certify every tutor before they take a single class.

      Application screen

Qualifications, teaching history and two professional references are verified before anything else happens. Around half of all applicants do not get past this stage.

    2. 02

      Subject mastery exam

A timed exam covering every domain they would teach, sat under supervision. The pass mark is 85 percent. Anyone who misses it waits six months before reapplying.

    3. 03

      Live teaching demo

A full mock class with a real student while an evaluator watches. We score explanation quality, not polish. Being able to do the math is not the same as being able to teach it.

    4. 04

      Communication and empathy

How they handle a wrong answer, a frustrated child and an anxious parent. Scored on clarity, patience, pace and whether they check understanding before moving on.

    5. 05

      Background and identity checks

Government photo ID, address verification, reference calls and a criminal background check. There are no exceptions to this stage and no way to skip it.

    6. 06

      Skillvelop training and certification

Forty hours on our assessment framework, learning styles, the live whiteboard tooling and child safeguarding. They pass certification or they do not teach here.

    7. 07

      Supervised start and ongoing review

A senior tutor reviews their first five classes. Parent ratings are monitored continuously, and every tutor recertifies once a year to stay on the platform.

    What we score them on

    Six things, every one
    of them non negotiable.

    Subject expertise

Fluent well beyond the level they teach, so they can answer the question behind the question.

    Communication and clarity

Able to explain one idea three different ways without sounding impatient the third time.

    Patience and empathy

Calm with mistakes, and able to spot when a child is lost but not saying so.

    Curriculum fluency

Teaches your board every week, so the plan matches what school actually expects.

    Child safeguarding

Trained on safe practice online, with every class recorded and open to parents.

    Technology confidence

Comfortable with the whiteboard, screen share and graphing tools, so no class time is lost to setup.

    Why parents stay

    The assessment is the
    part nobody else does.

We look back, not just forward

The skills check includes earlier-year questions, because current struggles usually trace back to something that never fully clicked.

    Feelings count as data

How a child reacts to a wrong answer shapes progress more than any score. We measure it and build the plan around it.

    Tutor style, matched

A patient foundations-first tutor and a fast-paced challenge tutor are different people. The report says which one your child needs.

    A report every week

Topics covered, confidence signals, what we are fixing next, in plain language rather than jargon.

    FAQ

    Questions parents ask

Everything we get asked before signing up. If yours is not here, email info@skillvelop.com and we will answer it.

    The free assessment

    What exactly is free?

Three things: the assessment itself, the written report that follows it, and a full 45-minute demo class with the tutor we match you to. No card, no deposit, no obligation at any of those stages. You only pay if you decide to start weekly classes.

How long does the assessment take?

About 15 minutes. It is split between questions with no right or wrong answer, covering how your child feels about math, and a short set of real grade-level problems. Your written report reaches you within 24 hours.

What does the assessment actually measure?

Six things: genuine interest in math, a math-specific view of confidence and resilience after mistakes, real skill gaps against your curriculum's domains, learning style, the type of tutor that fits, and a curriculum plan built around all of it.

Do we have to do the assessment before the demo class?

No. Most parents do, because it means the tutor walks into the demo already knowing where the gaps are instead of spending the first class finding out. If you would rather just meet a teacher first, say so at booking and we go straight to the demo.

Is this a diagnosis of a learning difficulty?

No, and we are careful about this. It is an educational tool for math interest, learning style and skill gaps. It is not a psychological, clinical or medical assessment and it does not diagnose anything. If something suggests a closer look is warranted, we say so and suggest speaking to a qualified professional.

    Which grades is it for?

Grades 1 to 10, or Classes 1 to 10 in India and Years 2 to 11 in the UK. The questions adapt by level, from simple and visual for younger children to more detailed for older ones.

Can my child retake it later?

Yes, and we suggest revisiting it every 6 to 12 months. Interest, confidence and skill all move with the right support, and a second report shows you exactly how much.

Does my child need to be good at math to take it?

No. It is designed to be comfortable for a child who dislikes math, and it is never framed as a test with a pass or fail. Children who are struggling are exactly who it helps most.

    Classes and tutors

What is the difference between 1:1, 1:2 and 1:4?

The number of students with one tutor. 1:1 is fully personalised and moves fastest. 1:2 pairs your child with someone at a similar level and costs less. 1:4 caps at four students and is the best value, and some children genuinely do better with peers around them. The tutors and the curriculum are the same in all three.

Will we get the same tutor every class?

Yes, that is the default and the whole point. Your tutor knows exactly where your child got stuck last week, so no class is spent re-establishing that.

Can we change tutors if it is not working?

Yes, free of charge. Chemistry matters as much as competence. Tell us within the first month and we rematch you at no cost.

    How are tutors vetted?

Every tutor clears a subject test, a mock class with a real student, and a background check before they ever meet your child. We hire roughly three of every hundred who apply.

    How long is each class?

30 minutes for Grades 1 to 3, 45 minutes for Grades 4 to 8, and 60 minutes for Grades 9 and 10. Younger children concentrate better in shorter sessions.

How many classes a week do you recommend?

Two a week for the youngest, two to three through the middle grades, and three to five for exam years. The report suggests a specific cadence for your child rather than a generic one.

What if my child is far behind?

It is the most common reason parents come to us. The assessment finds the earliest real gap, sometimes three grades back, and the plan rebuilds from there. That is exactly what one-to-one is good at.

What language are classes taught in?

English. Tutors can explain in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil or Arabic alongside English where that helps a child understand. Tell us at booking and we match accordingly.

    Curriculum

    Which curricula do you cover?

CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, IB (PYP and MYP), all major Indian state boards, the National Curriculum for England, the Australian Curriculum, Canadian provincial curricula, and US Common Core and state standards.

Do you help with school homework?

Yes. Most plans mix curriculum work with whatever your child has due, and there is a WhatsApp line for homework questions between classes.

Do you prepare for board exams?

Yes. Grade 9 and 10 plans include a full mock-paper series, timing drills and exam technique alongside the syllabus.

Do you teach olympiad or competition math?

Yes, where it is the right goal. The report gives an honest read on whether competition prep suits your child now or is better revisited once current gaps are closed. We would rather say not yet than sell you something premature.

    Practical

What do we need to join a class?

A laptop, tablet or phone with a browser and a stable connection. Nothing to install. A stylus or touchscreen helps for the whiteboard, but a mouse works fine.

Can I sit in on a class?

Any time, silently, with no notice needed. You also get a recording of every class in your parent dashboard.

    Are classes recorded?

Every one. Revision before a test becomes far easier when your child can rewatch the exact explanation that made something click.

What time zones do you cover?

We teach across IST, GST, GMT/BST, CET, EST/PST and AEST. Tutors are matched to your local evening and weekend slots, not ours.

What if we need to miss a class?

Reschedule up to 4 hours before, in two taps. Credits do not expire while your plan is active, and you can pause the plan for up to 8 weeks a year.

    How do progress reports work?

A written report every Friday for 1:1 and 1:2 plans, monthly for 1:4. Topics covered, confidence signals and what we are fixing next, in plain language rather than jargon.

    Pricing and payment

    How much do classes cost?

Live 1:1 classes start at ₹549 per class in India, $29 in the US, £23 in the UK, C$39 in Canada, €27 in Europe, A$42 in Australia and AED 105 in the Middle East. 1:2 and 1:4 small-group classes cost less again. Prices shown on the site adjust to your country automatically.

What is included in the monthly plan?

Eight classes a month as standard, weekly progress reports, recordings of every class, WhatsApp doubt support and free rescheduling. Grades 1 to 3 run 30-minute classes at 20% off the listed prices.

    Do you offer sibling discounts?

Yes, 15% off for a second child. Siblings at a similar level can also share a 1:2 slot, which is cheaper again.

Is there a joining fee or lock-in?

Neither. There is no joining fee, no minimum term, and you can cancel any time.

    How do I pay?

Monthly, by card or UPI in India and by card elsewhere. Payment is only ever taken after your free assessment and free demo class.

    What is your refund policy?

Set out in full on our refund policy page. In short: unused class credits are refundable, and if the first paid month does not work out we would rather refund you than keep you.

    Privacy and safety

Is my child safe in an online class?

Every tutor is background-checked, every class is recorded, and parents can join silently at any time without notice. Classes run in the browser with no separate app or private messaging between tutor and child.

What do you do with our data?

We use it to run the assessment, match a tutor and contact you. We never sell it and never share your phone number. Full detail is in our privacy policy.

Who can see the assessment report?

You, and the tutor we match to your child. It is not published, shared or used for anything else.
